We often think of heading to the beach, in the dead of summer, when the weather is nice and hot. But, fall is a perfect time to escape to the beach.
Why so? One reason is that the temperatures are a little cooler, but very pleasant. Another reason is that lodging accommodations are much cheaper. Maybe that’s why the snowbirds head to sunny Florida when the weather gets cooler.
My husband and I recently planned an extended weekend getaway to our favorite spot: Destin, Florida. We’ve vacationed numerous times in Destin, during the summer months, but had never visited during the fall.
I must say that the trip was very enjoyable. The cost of the condo was half of what we would pay during the summer. We usually rent a condo through Vacation Rentals By Owner (www.vrbo.com), a service we’ve used, without incident, for the last 10 years.
Although the water was a bit too cool to enjoy, we did enjoy just sitting and relaxing on the beach. There were no crowds or waiting lines to get a bite to eat. This fall getaway was perfect in every way.
Best of all, it was nice to relax, reconnect, and rejuvenate — a few simple things we may take for granted the rest of the year!
