Recently, my family spent a few relaxing days at our favorite vacation spot: Destin, Florida. Prior to going, everyone was excited that we would be spending time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, which, at times, can be very stressful. The thought of just being ‘beach bums’ was welcoming.
As hard as we try, it is easy for us to become consumed with thoughts of wanting more in life; focusing on the material things, and forgetting those things that really matter.
Going to the beach is an escape from life — a life of hurried activity, thoughts, and energy that drain us of our ability to feel connected to the universe.
As I sat on the beach, with one of my sons, letting the ocean waves romance my feet, watching the sun go down over the ocean, and hearing only the sounds of the waves splashing against the shore, I had only one thought: ‘The best things in life are free.’
