Nowadays, everyone is on the fitness kick — this is a good thing! With so many different activities to engage in, there’s no reason for anyone not to get some level of physical activity. Whether you enjoy walking, running, dancing, kickboxing, pilates, yoga, just to name a few, the one thing to remember: find a fitness activity that works for you.
Several years ago, when I committed to developing a more active lifestyle, I started going to salsa classes because I loved dancing. Then I transitioned to zumba, which I love. After a few months, I decided to try a Jillian Michaels workout, which was truly kick-butt — so very effective, though. Jillian’s workouts were the primer for me to try Tabata workouts. From there I started the couch to 5k program, and am now doing cardio kickboxing.
What I’ve learned about myself in trying to stay active is that I bore very easily. After a few months, maybe even weeks of doing the same activity, I’m ready to try something new and different. Some folks like doing the same activity over and over; me, I’m bored out of my mind. Knowing this about myself, I don’t get frustrated or beat myself up because I don’t want to continue doing the same fitness routine — I just move on and try something new.
If you’re anything like me, and get bored easily, don’t waste your time on doing activities that you don’t like. The key to building a lifelong habit of staying active is to find what works best for you!!
