After following a healthy diet for over 30 years, I’ve learned that one secret to staying on a healthy path is to keep it simple. And, by simple I mean eating healthy foods that are relatively easy to make or foods that provide valuable health benefits in their natural state. One such food is oatmeal.

Not only is oatmeal easy to make, it provides numerous health benefits. According to the Whole Grains Council, eating whole grains helps to maintain weight, reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, promotes healthy blood pressure levels, and reduce the risk of heart disease.

Let’s take a closer look at the health benefits of oatmeal:

NUTRITION
Oatmeal is a whole-grain, from harvested whole oats, and is high in soluble fiber, which improves digestive health, and helps to lower cholesterol. Most brands of oatmeal are fortified with minerals and vitamins, including thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, folate and vitamin E.

WEIGHT MANAGEMENT
Since oatmeal contains soluble fiber, which slows the digestion and keeps you feeling fuller longer, you’ll be more satisfied and eat less. Oatmeal is relatively low in calories, and is a good breakfast food, if you’re on a diet.

For a healthy start to your day, eat oatmeal.
